Recently, I asked for input from retailers about their strategies for dealing with tariffs. One retail subscriber told me that she will be raising prices, but wants to find the best ways to proactively convey/explain the upcoming increases to her best customers. She asked my opinion on holding a store event with the secondary purpose of having personal conversations with her customer base. Well, I love that idea! Making it a success will involve a strategy for combining a fun evening with an informational agenda without allowing the event to become a negative, groan-fest. We are currently brainstorming event theme ideas. Leave a comment if you’d like to weigh in.
Which reminds me, I have not written much about store events lately, so here’s a review:
When brainstorming store event ideas, ask yourself these questions to start on a successful path.
How would the event benefit my customers?
How would the event benefit my brand? (Beyond sales numbers, ie: building loyalty, gaining new customers)
How would the event benefit others involved? ( authors, makers, charity partners, artist, speaker, brand rep, local expert, instructor etc.)
Would the event encourage people to make a purchase?
Can I get my staff on board to help publicize and execute the event?
If you are convinced that your event idea hits all those marks, it is far more likely to be successful — for everyone involved! ~Becky
